AC Milan: Beckham Deal to Stay in Milan Coming Soon

Looks like David Beckham is staying in George Clooney's Lake Como mansion for a few more months if not permanently. From Milan today the associated press reports that AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani said Friday that negotiations are "on the right track" to keep David Beckham at the Italian club for the rest of the season.

Galliani said he was confident of reaching an agreement with the Los Angeles Galaxy, but dispelled British news reports that a deal was already completed.

"We are going ahead with the operations and we are on the right track, but it's not yet official that Beckham will stay at Milan," Galliani told the ANSA news agency. "If there's a deal we could sign even in a couple of days."

"There are many chances he will stay. The important thing is that he keep playing with the Milan jersey. It doesn't matter when we sign the contract."

Britain's Sky Sports News and Press Association quoted sources saying that Beckham will stay through the Italian league season before returning to the Galaxy in the summer.

The England midfielder will play for the Galaxy between July and October and return to Milan next season, the reports said.

Beckham has been on loan at Milan for two months and was due to return to the Major League Soccer team next week. He has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay at Milan.

Galliani said earlier this week that a deal allowing him to extend his stay was near.

The 33-year-old Beckham wants to remain with Milan to improve his chances of making England's team for next year's World Cup.

He has scored two goals in 11 games for the Italian team and has looked in his best form since leaving Real Madrid two years ago.

Beckham joined the Galaxy on a five-year contract worth $32.5 million when he left Madrid, but early struggles with his fitness and the demands of traveling back to Europe to play for England lessened his impact.

David Beckham's lawyers are talking to the Los Angeles Galaxy to see whether the club will enter into negotiations so he can stay in Italy, AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani said Wednesday.

"At the moment there is neither optimism nor pessimism," Galliani said.

The European soccer ambassador is crossing back over the pond to Europe from Los Angeles Galaxy as a soccer super star that crosses continents like Marco Polo with Spices to boot!

The English midfielder is halfway through a three-month loan with Milan that ends March 8. He has started all five matches since his arrival in Milan and has scored twice, and on Sunday he set up two goals in a 3-1 victory.

Beckham says he's enjoyed his return to Europe more than he expected, and while he respects the $32.5 million, five-year contract he signed with Major League Soccer in 2007, playing for Milan has been special. The Galaxy has reiterated that it wants Beckham back when the loan ends.

Milan (WebVisionItaly.com) - David Beckham arrived today in Italy at Milan's Malpensa airport for his scheduled medical with AC Milan.

Upon arriving at Malpensa Airport outside Milan Beckham said, ""I'm honoured to be here and to play with for one of the most successful clubs in the world....

I've played for the biggest club in England, the biggest club in Spain and now I want to play for the biggest club in Italy." He then headed to the AC Milan training center.

Beckham is due to be officially presented on Saturday while he watches Milan's clash with Udinese.

Beckham could begin playing with AC Milan January 11 for Milan at AS Roma, but he will only be available until March 8 when his loan period ends and he will return to Los Angeles Galaxy for the star

t of the new Major League Soccer season in the US.

"We've overcome problems that were infinitely bigger than when we buy a player," he said of the loan deal.

Beckhm and AC Milan will begin winter training December 29 in Dubai.

After the physical it was announced the former Manchester United player captain and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham will wear the number 32 jersey for his new club AC Milan.

David Beckham's move from the Galaxy to AC Milan was finalized Thursday, with the England national team midfielder set to join the Italian club on loan for January and February.

The exact starting and ending dates of the loan were left unclear, however, as were most other pertinent details.

For example, neither club would reveal who would pay Beckham's $541,667-a-month salary during his absence from Los Angeles. Nor would they comment on the specifics of "a technical partnership" being formed between the Galaxy and AC Milan, or whether the Galaxy would financially benefit from lending its top player.

"Terms of the agreement will remain confidential," said a joint statement issued by the Major League Soccer and Serie A teams.

According to AC Milan's website: "The English player [David Beckham] will be a Rossonero (red and black) from Jan. 7, 2009."
